Chromatic Major Scale

Barry Harris Bebop

Take any scale and add half steps before the scale tones. Any where there is a half step, 4th and root for major scale, add the scale tone above. You want to have a scale tone on the down beat and a chromatic tone (or a scale tone above a half-step) on the up beat.

Descending Approach to Chord Tones

Think of your target note as beat 1. Here I counted 8 notes above so I would have 4 beats or a full measure before the target note. Then play it backwards. Play around with other timing and rhythm patterns. Notice that I am also incorporating Freddie Green chords!
